About The Trek

Covered with mystery,  with a maximum aititude of 4950 mt., this is one of the few untouched lands in the Himalayas. This is the only trek that gives you the view of swargarohini, bandarpoonch and kalanag peaks at touching distance which makes this trek an absolute delight for Himalayan lovers. Drive from Dehradun to Sankri/Saur (1920mt) through the Yamuna and Tons valleys across the Yamuna bridge and eye pleasing view of beautiful dense pine forests. Trekkers will reach Sankri in the evening, which is the best time to look out for the sun setting behind the mountain ranges. Sankri base camp gives a beautiful view of all the four peaks in swargarohini range. Overnight camping in sankri under the clear sky covered with millions of stars. Participants are expected to arrive at Sankri base camp on their own with an additional cost. TrekUp will arrange for the taxi to Sankri base camp from dehradun.

Early morning drive from Sankri to Taluka through dense forests and water streams gushing down the roads.Taluka is a small village with traditional house structures and a few dhaba corners serving simple yet delicious food. Trekkers will be given some rest and the trek will start from Taluka. This 14km trek has everything in it, as the trekkers will walk on rocky surfaces, traditional wooden bridges and green trials with supin river flowing on the left side. One can notice the presence of different animals and birds as well. The great thing about this trek is, that trekkers will get many spots with fresh drinking water streams. The trekkers will reach Seema via Gangar village in the evening. The trekkers will camp on a small green field just before seema.

This trek is a smaller one yet beautiful as you pass by river flowing on your left and this trial gives you some beautiful views of snow capped mountains and vast valleys with huge waterfalls. This area is a delight for photographers as it is home to a number of rare species of Himalayan birds, animal and flowers. After a small steep climb to Devsu bugyal, the trekkers will camp here.

Trek Start to Ruinsara Lake on a gradual ascent that offers excellent views of the snow-covered mountains and vast valleys with huge waterfalls. The area is home to a number of rare species of Himalayas. On your left, observe Har-ki-Doon Valley, below which is the confluence of Har-ki-Doon and Ruinsara rivers. Look out for steep descend towards ruinsara river through forest trail. Trekkers will have to cross a wooden bridge over the ruinsara river. Observe the Ruinsara valley on your right. Passing through mountain bends one will have to walk through landslide area and depending upon the conditions, one may have to use ropes for crossing over the broken bends. Observe the ruinsara lake surrounded with meadows where the trekkers will camp.

Day 5 will be a light day for the trekkers but will promise some breathtaking views of ruinsara and kyarkoti valley. The whole swargarohini range will be visible at touching distance for the first time and it will surely attract the trekkers. The climb towards bali odari will suddenly get steeper and the trekkers will feel the altitude gain. The bali base camp or “odari” will please your eyes as, the swargarohini massif will be at your back and whole area will be covered with snow and the camp will be set here.

Today will be the summit push and the trekkers will have to put some real effort here as the altitude will reach to 4950m at the summit. After reaching the summit, one can get a panoramic view of snow capped swargarohini, bandarpoonch and kalanag(black peak) ranges. After clicking photos and spending some quality time on summit, the trekkers will move down towards damini forest for camping.

Today is an easy day and the trekkers will descend towars Jankichatti via Yamunotri temple. Otherwise, take a right and follow the trail that descends and connects with the new Yamunotri to Janakchatti pilgrim trail.

Day 8 :

What to take

Packing Refuge Based Keep it simple and minimal “A heavy pack is a pack filled with anxiety.” Freud.Keeping your pack weight to a minimum is the key to a successful trek. We recommend people joining any of our treks where you will be sleeping in gites (hostels) or refuges be equipped with the following:

 Technical equipment Comfortable walking boots or shoes (3 or 4 season)

 Walking poles (definitely two) Clothing suggestions

 Fleece Waterproof jacket (or big plastic poncho)

 Waterproof over trousers

 Lightweight puffer jacket for evening comfort in the higher refuges

 Warm gloves and hat (for early starts)

 Sun hat or peaked cap

 Sunglasses

 One pair shorts

 One pair lightweight walking trousers

 Two T-shirts

 Good quality walking socks

Other essential items

 40 – 60 litre Rucksack

Light weight towel

 Waterproof ruck sack cover or waterproof bags to keep your things dry

 Sun block for face and lips (Factor 50)

 Personal First Aid kit (plasters, Compeed for blisters, paracetamol)

 Roll of toilet paper

 Water bottle or Platypus type hydration system – 1.5 to 2 litres

 Penknife

 Head torch for use in refuges

 Survival blanket (light foil blanket to keep injured people warm).

Optional items Change of clothing to include:

 underwear, tracksuit bottoms, dry shirt, spare socks (think of things that you can wear to both dinner and bed so you don’t need to change)

 Camera Paperback novel (light!)

 Snack bars/dried fruit/chocolate

 Waterproof map case

 Ear plugs (there will inevitably be snorers in the refuge)

 Buff – good for blocking out light and noise while sleeping, keeping your neck warm, holding your hair etc.
